WASHINGTON _ For nine months, a baby grew inside the 36-year-old woman, who lay in a nursing home partially paralyzed and mentally incapacitated by a stroke. But nobody noticed until a nurse found the newborn inside the patient’s adult diaper at the Maitland Health Care Center almost 14 months ago. The woman’s relatives say they found out about the child only after being informed by the hospital. The father of the baby, police say, was a health-care worker at the nursing home who raped the woman in her bed. In Sacramento, Calif., a health aide attacked an elderly woman so viciously that she spent the final 60 days of her life trapped in a neck and head brace, her once vigorous voice slurred by pain.
