Police investigate new nursing home abuse claims

The Federal Government has revealed Queensland police are investigating more claims of patient abuse in a nursing home. Aged Care Minister Santo Santoro says a former worker at the Immanuel Gardens Nursing Home on the Sunshine Coast was sacked after the allegations surfaced. The claims follow recent allegations that residents at a Melbourne home were raped by an aged care worker. Senator Santoro says his department is investigating. “I have confidence in the system, while admitting that where cases of fine-tuning become obvious, the Government will respond to suggestions from residents, from relatives, and from the professionals within the community,” he said.
