Police chief urges prostitution review

A wide-ranging review of Scotland’s prostitution laws has been called for by one of the country’s most senior police officers.

The deputy chief constable of Lothian and Borders Police Tom Wood said legal change should be considered as part of a comprehensive reassessment of Scotland’s sex industry.

A former Bishop of Edinburgh went further, calling for brothels to be legalised.

Some of Scotland’s sex industry laws are hundreds of years old and the legislation is applied differently by police forces around the country.
